At Heritage Covenant Church, we believe that discipling the next generation is a shared responsibility between the church and parents. Both church and family are called by God to partner in this sacred task, working together to nurture the faith of our children and build a lasting heritage of faith. Our mission is to equip parents with the tools they need to disciple their children while providing a robust Sunday school curriculum that lays a strong biblical foundation for the next generation.
One way we fulfill this mission is through The Biggest Story Curriculum by Pastor Kevin DeYoung. This Reformed, gospel-centered curriculum serves as the backbone of our Sunday school program, providing children with a unified understanding of the Bible’s overarching narrative—from Genesis to Revelation. It also empowers parents to reinforce and expand upon these lessons at home, making it a tool for family discipleship as well as church teaching.

Why The Biggest Story Curriculum?
The curriculum spans 104 lessons, designed to be completed over two years. Each lesson includes:
Teach the Story: Clear teaching points that emphasize key biblical themes.
Gospel Connection: A focus on how every story points to Jesus and His redemptive work.
Engage Activities: Crafts, discussions, and questions that help children interact with and apply the lessons.
This comprehensive approach ensures that children don’t just learn isolated stories but see how they fit into the grand narrative of redemption. Kevin DeYoung reminds us,
“There is nothing more important for the younger generation than imparting to them a rich vision of the gospel.”
Partnering with Parents
We recognize that parents are the primary disciplers of their children, as outlined in Deuteronomy 6:7. Our Sunday school program is a resource to support families in this calling. Each week, parents can access lesson summaries, discussion questions, and activities to continue the conversation at home. This intentional partnership ensures that church and home work together to create a cohesive and transformative discipleship experience.
Building a Heritage of Faith
Catechizing and systematically teaching the faith have long been pillars of the Reformed tradition. Martin Luther famously emphasized the importance of teaching children the essentials of doctrine, saying,
“The catechism is the essential primer of Christian doctrine.”
By using The Biggest Story Curriculum, we are not only teaching biblical truths but also cultivating a strong theological foundation for the next generation.
Through this curriculum, we aim to glorify God by equipping families to live out their faith in every area of life—homes where discipleship is central, relationships marked by gospel grace, and communities transformed by the love of Christ.
