Who is this for?
Heritage Covenant Church is for individuals and families in Spokane, North Spokane, Deer Park, and nearby communities who are seeking a biblically grounded, confessionally Reformed church rooted in Scripture, reverent worship, covenant discipleship, hospitality, and shared life.
It is also for those who love Christ and Scripture but may feel cautious about church because of past experiences with unhealthy leadership, shallow programs, or impersonal religious systems.
For Those Cautious About Church
A Slower, Healthier Way to Begin
We understand that many people have complicated experiences with church. Some have seen churches become overly institutional, political, controlling, impersonal, or unhealthy. Others still love Christ, love Scripture, and value Christian fellowship, but feel hesitant about becoming part of another formal church structure.
Heritage Covenant Church is beginning slowly for that reason. We are not trying to build a religious machine. We are gathering people around Scripture, prayer, hospitality, honest conversation, and real Christian relationships.
At the same time, we believe Jesus does not call His people to follow Him in isolation. The Christian life is personal, but it is not private. Christ gathers His people into a body, forms them through His Word, strengthens them through prayer, and calls them to love, serve, forgive, and bear burdens together.
We also believe spiritual leadership must serve Christ’s people, not use them. Elders and leaders do not own the church or build their own kingdom. They serve under Jesus Christ, the only King and Head of the Church, by teaching the Word, guarding sound doctrine, caring for souls, protecting the vulnerable, and helping believers grow in faithfulness.
So if you are spiritually hungry but cautious about church, we would love to begin with a conversation. Come open the Bible with us. Share a meal. Ask questions. Pray with us. Get to know the people. There is no pressure to pretend, perform, or rush into commitment.
We are seeking to build slowly, humbly, and faithfully — not as another system to manage people, but as a covenant community learning to follow Christ together.
How we'll start
We are beginning by gathering people and forming a core community through discipleship before establishing regular public Lord’s Day worship.
Our primary rhythm during this season is the Heritage Way—a weekly, intergenerational rhythm centered on shared meals, prayer, singing, Scripture, and intentional discipleship. Children, youth, and adults will remain together, learning and growing side by side as one covenant community.
As we grow in unity, maturity, and readiness, we will move toward establishing regular Lord’s Day worship.
We are building slowly and intentionally—forming relationships, cultivating trust, and seeking not merely to launch a worship service, but to become a healthy, deeply rooted church as Christ forms us through His Word, prayer, and life together.
Our Formation Process
These phases describe our intended path toward regular Lord’s Day worship. They may overlap as the Lord provides people, develops leaders, and grows us in unity and readiness.
Phase 1
SHARING THE VISION
We share the vision of Heritage Covenant Church through personal conversations, hospitality, and informal gatherings across northern Spokane County. We invite individuals and families to explore the formation of a gospel-centered, confessional Reformed church.
Goal: Gather people aligned with the mission, doctrine, and vision of the church.
(Fall 2025 – Spring 2026)
Phase 2
ROOTING
We form a core community through the Heritage Way—a weekly, intergenerational rhythm of shared meals, prayer, singing, Scripture, and discussion. Together, we build a common foundation in doctrine, discipleship, and covenant life.
Goal: Establish a spiritually mature and unified core rooted in God’s Word, prayer, and shared life.
Current Phase: Fall 2026
Phase 3
FORMING
As the community grows in unity and maturity, gifts are recognized and people are equipped to serve.
Potential officers and ministry leaders are identified, tested, and trained for faithful service in the church.
Goal: Develop qualified leadership and sustainable ministry rhythms shaped by character, conviction, and shared responsibility.
(Fall 2026 – Spring 2027)
Phase 4
ESTABLISH WORSHIP
When the core community is prepared in doctrine, unity, leadership, and practical readiness, we will establish regular public Lord’s Day worship centered on the Word, sacraments, prayer, and praise.
Goal: Establish faithful Lord’s Day worship with a strong foundation for long-term health, service, and mission.
Target: Winter 2026 – Spring 2027

Meet one-on-one to explore the vision of Heritage Covenant Church and prayerfully discern your next step in Phase 1 of the church plant.
Ways to serve
God builds His church through ordinary people who are willing to pray, grow, serve, and walk together in faithfulness.
These are not positions of status or authority. They are practical areas of service that help the church plant grow in clarity, hospitality, order, worship, discipleship, and care. As HCC forms, we want service to arise from humility, maturity, and shared life—not pressure, platform-building, or rushed leadership.
Planting Lead
Jeremy Lyerla
Provides spiritual leadership and direction for the church plant through preaching, discipleship, and shepherding. This role focuses on laying a faithful foundation rooted in the Word, forming people toward maturity, mission, and multiplication.
Worship - Tech Lead
Liam Lyerla
Help lead and support Christ-centered worship gatherings through music and simple, clear technology. This role focuses on creating a distraction-free environment where the Word is central and the congregation can sing and participate fully.
Youth Lead
Liam Lyerla
Build relationships with students and provide simple, faithful teaching that helps them grow in Christ. This role is focused on presence, consistency, and helping integrate youth into the life of the church.
Facilities Lead

Oversee setup, teardown, and the practical details of gathering spaces so that everything is ready and welcoming. This role helps remove distractions and creates an environment where people can focus on worship and fellowship.
Prayer Lead
