Join Us on the Journey to Plant a Reformed Church in Spokane WA

Planting a new church is an exciting and faith-filled journey, and Heritage Covenant Church is committed to establishing a Reformed community rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to glorify God by building a vibrant, covenantal church that faithfully administers the Means of Grace—Word, Sacraments, and Prayer—while equipping believers to live out their faith in every aspect of life. If you are passionate about seeing a Christ-centered church take root and flourish in Spokane, Washington, we invite you to join us in this church-planting journey.

Below, we outline the four key phases of our church plant and the leadership roles we are currently seeking to fill. Whether you are looking to participate, support, or pray for this endeavor, we encourage you to read on and consider where God may be calling you to serve.

PLANT PHASES

Heritage Covenant Church’s journey toward a Fall 2027 launch is organized into four phases:

Phase 1: Gathering Interest and Vision Casting (Fall 2025 – Spring 2026)

The first step in any church plant is gathering a community of like-minded believers who resonate with the church’s vision. In this phase, we are actively connecting with individuals and families across Spokane who share a desire for a biblically faithful, covenantal church.

Through informal gatherings, interest meetings, and personal conversations, we are sharing the mission and purpose of Heritage Covenant Church. Our vision is to establish a church that prioritizes faithful preaching, biblical discipleship, and covenantal community life.

How You Can Be Involved:

  • Attend an interest meeting to learn more about the church’s vision.

  • Host a small gathering at your home where we can discuss the mission and answer questions.

  • Share our website and mission with those in your network who may be interested in joining.

  • Pray for God to lead the right people to join this endeavor.

By the end of this phase, we hope to have a core group of individuals who are eager to take the next step in establishing the church.

Phase 2: Aligning Theology and Distinctives (Spring 2026 – Fall 2026)

Once we have gathered a committed group, we shift our focus to theological alignment. Heritage Covenant Church is deeply rooted in the Reformed tradition, and it is crucial that all members of the founding team share a unified understanding of the church’s core beliefs.

During this phase, we hold a series of study sessions and discussions on essential doctrines, including:

  • The authority and sufficiency of Scripture

  • The sovereignty of God in salvation

  • Covenant theology and its implications for church life

  • The Means of Grace: preaching, sacraments, and prayer

  • The role of elders and deacons in church governance

These discussions foster a shared commitment to the theological identity and mission of the church. They also provide a foundation for unity, ensuring that all members are equipped to articulate and defend the church’s beliefs.

How You Can Be Involved:

  • Participate in theological study sessions.

  • Recommend doctrinally sound books and resources to strengthen our learning.

  • Ask questions and engage in discussions to deepen theological understanding.

  • Pray for wisdom and unity as we align on biblical truth.

By the end of this phase, we will have a strong doctrinal foundation and a committed group of believers ready to move forward.

Phase 3: Confirming Core Team and Defining Roles (Fall 2026 – Spring 2027)

With theological alignment in place, we shift our focus to structuring the church’s core team. This phase is about identifying and confirming individuals who will serve in key leadership roles within the church plant. A well-defined leadership structure ensures that the church functions effectively and that each member contributes according to their gifts and calling.

Key leadership areas include:

  • Worship: Organizing and leading Christ-centered corporate worship services.

  • Discipleship: Structuring Bible studies, small groups, and one-on-one discipleship.

  • Hospitality: Creating a welcoming and supportive church environment.

  • Outreach: Engaging the local community with evangelistic efforts.

Each leadership role comes with responsibilities and opportunities for growth. We desire to build a team that is passionate, dedicated, and biblically equipped to serve.

How You Can Be Involved:

  • Prayerfully consider serving in one of the leadership roles.

  • Volunteer to assist in hospitality, discipleship, or outreach efforts.

  • Encourage and support those stepping into leadership positions.

  • Pray for God to bring the right individuals into each role.

By the end of this phase, we will have an established leadership team prepared to take on the challenges and blessings of church planting.

Phase 4: Practical and Legal Planning (Spring 2027 – Fall 2027)

The final phase before launching involves logistical and legal preparations. This phase ensures that the church is legally established, financially secure, and practically equipped to function as a self-sustaining congregation.

Key tasks include:

  • Securing a location: Identifying and securing a suitable place for worship services and gatherings.

  • Legal and financial setup: Registering as a non-profit organization, setting up church finances, and obtaining necessary permits.

  • Developing operational structures: Establishing membership procedures, creating policies, and structuring administrative functions.

This phase lays the groundwork for long-term sustainability. By ensuring that all practical and legal matters are in order, we set up Heritage Covenant Church for future growth and ministry impact.

How You Can Be Involved:

  • Assist with location scouting and facility planning.

  • Contribute financially to support the church’s foundational needs.

  • Offer expertise in legal, financial, or administrative areas.

  • Pray for God’s provision and guidance in securing resources.

With all structures in place, we will be ready to launch public worship services and move forward as a functioning church body.

Leadership Team Positions We Are Looking to Fill

As we prepare for the launch of Heritage Covenant Church, we are actively seeking individuals to serve in the following leadership capacities:

  1. Facilities: Overseeing building logistics, setup, and maintenance.

  2. Children’s Sunday School: Developing a biblically sound and engaging Sunday school program.

  3. Christian School Start-Up: Leading efforts to establish a Reformed Christian school connected to the church.

  4. Worship: Planning and leading corporate worship services, including music and liturgy.

  5. IT and Media: Managing the church’s website, social media, and digital outreach efforts.

If you have a passion for serving in any of these areas, we encourage you to reach out. Your involvement could play a crucial role in the success and sustainability of Heritage Covenant Church.
